“A bambocci” cabinets appeared at the end of the 16th century around 1560 in Genoa, replacing chests. The so-called “a bambocci” cabinets are decorated with sculptures of a spectacular world of characters.
This very beautiful example is composed of a lower part opening with two leaves and two small drawers. It rests on a superb base with lion heads and legs. The doors are decorated with arches with cherubs in the corners. We can find the same arches on both sides which remind us of a Roman temple. The uprights are decorated with centurions and caryatids. The uprights as well as the sides are decorated with sculptures, which is unusual and a sign of its exceptional quality. Finally, puttis resting on horses come to support the flap.
The upper part is composed of a secretary. Very beautiful burr walnut work on the flap also with superb ironwork. The uprights are also decorated with figures carved on its face as well as on its sides.
The top cornice has two drawers and is also decorated with cherubs with a medallion with three cherubs in its center.
The flap opens to reveal a superb interior decorated with a Roman temple with a centurion in the center.
It is made up of three doors and 7 drawers including 2 secret drawers. The center door opens to reveal 3 small drawers.
Superb work on the three doors describing miniature porticos with a central character surrounded by two small figures
The cabinet came to us in exceptional condition and has an extraordinary patina.
